Your application may contain objects that behave like standard objects but are not recognized by QuickTest. You can define these objects as virtual objects and map them to standard classes, such as a button or a check box.
Defining a Virtual Object:
- Open your application and display the object containing the area you want to define as a virtual object.
- In QuickTest:
a. Open the Virtual Object Wizard in one of the following ways:
➤ Select Tools à Virtual Objects à New Virtual Object.
➤ From the Virtual Object Manager, click New.
b. Click Next.
- In the ‘Map to a Standard Class’ Screen, Select the Class you want to map and click on Next.
- In the ‘Mark Virtual Object’ Screen, click on Mark Object button. The QuickTest window and virtual object wizard are minimized and pointer turns into crosshairs.
- Use the crosshairs pointer to mark the area of virtual object.
- Click on Next button.
- In the ‘Object Configuration’ screen, select an object in the object tree to assign it as the parent of the virtual object.
- In the’ Identify Object Using’ box, select how you want QuickTest to identify and map the virtual object.
- In the ‘Save Virtual Object’ screen, specify a name and collection for the Virtual Object.
NOTE:
- You can map virtual objects to standard objects like, Object, Button, Table, List, Check Box and Radio Button.
- The Virtual Object Manager enables you to view and manage the virtual object collections defined on your computer.
- You can use virtual objects only when recording and running a test.
- You can define virtual objects only for objects on which QuickTest records Click or DblClick methods. Otherwise, the virtual object is ignored.
- You can remove Virtual Objects with the help of Virtual Object Manager.
- You can disable Virtual Objects with the help Tools à Options. There by checking ‘Disable recognitions of Virtual Objects while Recording’.
